How to Make Homemade Cranberry Sauce with Orange Zest
- Rinse cranberries: Start by rinsing the fresh cranberries under cool water. Take a moment to inspect them, discarding any mushy ones that may spoil your sauce.
- Grate orange zest: Using a grater, carefully grate the zest from one medium orange. This vibrant zest will infuse your sauce with a warm, citrus aroma!
- Combine ingredients: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the rinsed cranberries, sugar, water, freshly squeezed orange juice, and the delightful orange zest. Stir gently to mix everything together.
- Boil mixture: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, or until you start hearing those cranberries pop.
- Simmer until thickened: Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for another 10-15 minutes. The sauce should thicken and coat the back of a spoon beautifully.
- Cool and serve: Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool. Transfer it to a serving dish.
